Course Content

This course content includes the following topics:

  1. Define civility, understand its causes, and enumerate at least three of its behavioral indicators
  2. Understand the costs of incivility, as well as the rewards of civility, within the workplace
  3. Learn practical ways of practicing workplace etiquette, including the proper use of greetings, respect, involvement, and political correctness
  4. Learn the basic styles of conflict resolution and identify the style most appropriate for managing particular conflicts in the workplace
  5. Learn skills in diagnosing the causes of uncivil behaviour
  6. Understand the role of forgiveness and conflict resolution in the creation of a civil working environment
  7. Understand the different elements of effective communication, particularly effective para-verbal and nonverbal communication
  8. Learn facilitative communication skills such as listening and appreciative inquiry
  9. Learn specific interventions that can be utilized when there’s conflict within the workplace
  10. Learn a recommended procedure for systematizing civil behavior within the workplace

The course includes a quiz, a course evaluation and certificate of completion.

Course Description

Building on Creating a Respectful Workplace Part 1, this course supports the development of an internal conduct policy and implementation to strengthen professionalism and mitigate harassing behaviour or actions.

In this course we cover: employee engagement methods; needs assessment and analysis; policy working group; policy drafting and identifying complain mechanisms and enforcement; implementation processes.
