This course content includes the following topics:

  1. Increased understanding of the complex relationships between poverty, homelessness, trauma, stigma, substance use, and harm reduction
  2. Strengthened awareness of the efficacy of harm reduction strategies including overdose awareness
  3. Enhanced knowledge of harm reduction-based resources/services and of including people with lived expertise in program development and delivery

The course includes a quiz, a course evaluation and certificate of completion.

Course Description

Harm reduction is a set of practical strategies and ideas aimed at reducing negative consequences associated with drug use.

Topics include the Canadian road to implementing harm reduction; foundational principles; types of harm reduction for substance use; a spotlight on indigenous-centered approaches to harm reduction and connection to reconciliation.
