Course Content

This course content includes the following topics:

  1. Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Internal Responsibility System – What worker’s rights are and the offenses and punishments
  2. Employer safety, employer supervisor duties – What the employer requirements are, what the supervisor’s role is. What appropriate safety documentation is and what a corrective measure is.
  3. Work hazards and risk – Learn about hazard prevention, the hazard assessment process, and hazard identification methods.
  4. Contractor safety management and project safety planning – Discuss hiring contractors and subcontractors and review the importance of planning for the safety of all persons working on the project.
  5. Incident reporting – How to report a health and safety incident, how to conduct an investigation into an incident and learn about return to work programs.
  6. Safety leadership – What “safety leadership” means. What does it look like? Leading by example and how to direct and manage work taking into consideration health and safety policies.

The course includes a quiz, a course evaluation and certificate of completion.

Course Description

The training course was designed and developed for supervisory positions.

This training will be separated into a number of learning modules that will relate to the Northwest Territories and Nunavut regulatory requirements under the Occupational Health and Safety Act related to supervisors’ responsibilities.

The course includes industry best practices, identifying and controlling hazards in the workplace, contractor safety management and practical industry specific exercises.
