Knowledge of various forms of addiction (substance, solvents, process addictions)
Knowledge of the physiological mechanisms of chemical dependence
Knowledge of biological, psychological and sociological factors that determine an individual’s level of involvement with substances or gambling
Knowledge of early, middle, and late signs and symptoms of addictions and/or poly substance use
Knowledge of how addictions work and their effects on family and community
Knowledge of base principles of pharmacology
Knowledge of human growth and development
Knowledge of processes of recovery including western and traditional models
Knowledge of relapse prevention, planning, and techniques

The course includes a quiz, a course evaluation and certificate of completion.

Course Description

Anyone working with individuals and families on the frontline requires a foundational knowledge of substance use and concurrent disorders.

This course is a comprehensive primer that introduces the learner to the various forms of addiction; the physiological mechanisms of chemical dependence; the various factors that determine an individual’s involvement in substance use; the signs, symptoms, effects and supports available for clients and their family.
