Course Content

This course content includes the following topics:

  1. Creating a culture of food safety (i.e., FATTOM)
  2. The causes of foodborne illness
  3. Microbes and foodborne illness
  4. Food safety plans and HACCP
  5. Handling, receiving, preparing and storing food
  6. Cleaning, sanitizing and pest control
  7. Premise requirements

The course includes an exam, a course evaluation and certificate of completion.

Course Description

Welcome to the FoodSafe program! This course provides you with the fundamental information and practices required to work safely with food. Certification after a 70% pass rate is provided by the Province of BC and is mailed to the participant.

The purpose of the FoodSafe – Level 1 course is to:

  1. Create an awareness of foodborne illness and its effects
  2. Reduce the possibility of food-related illness
  3. Protect the public and workers from harm
