Course Description

Building on Communication Skills 2, we discuss explore the counseling role of community support workers within the mandate, role, responsibility and scope of one’s work.

We explore topics such as the definition of counseling; the difference between supportive emotional counseling, traditional indigenous counseling approaches; motivational interviewing; experiential peer support as a model, and types of clinical level counseling for client referral.

NOTE: The Communication Skills – Level 2 course is a prerequisite for this course
