Testing

Dangerous goods must be packaged in packaging that meet Canadian and International Standards (eg., United Nations, CSA, CGSB or DOT Standards) for design, testing, and certification.

These package tests are conducted in an approved or recognized testing facility or laboratory.

This may involve all or some of the following testing methods:

➤ Drop test of the package(s) from specific heights depending on the packing group

➤ A stack test to demonstrate what weight can be on top of the package(s)

➤ A leakproof test, submerging the container in water

➤ A burn test to determine the results of exposure to fire or flames

➤ Hydrostatic pressure test to determine vapour pressure buildup

➤ A vibration test
