Additional Exemptions

There are additional exemptions under special cases for various situations, intentions, or types of dangerous goods.

These include:

  • Agricultural (1.21-1.24)
  • Emergency Response (1.26)
  • Operation of a Means of Transport or Containment (1.27)
    • this applies to materials used to operate a vehicle (fuel) or for safety onboard (fire extinguishers)
  • Ferry Exemption (1.30)
  • Class 2 Gas (1.32-1.32.3) – 1.32.3 allows gases in Small Means of Containment to be exempt if:
    • They are acetylene, compressed air, argon, carbon dioxide, methylacetylene and propadiene mixture stabilized, nitrogen, oxygen, and propane
    • A maximum of 5 cylinders
    • The total gross weight does not exceed 500 kg
    • All labels are visible from outside the road vehicle
  • Class 3 Flammable Liquid (1.33)
  • Gasoline or Diesel Fuel (1.35)
    • the container must be secured to the road vehicle
    • the container must have a Class 3 label or placard
    • cannot exceed 2000 litres
  • Infectious or Biological Substances (1.39, 1.41, 1.42)
  • Residue of Dangerous Goods in a drum (1.44)
  • Marine Pollutants Exemption (1.45.1)
  • UN1044 Fire Extinguishers Exemption (1.47
